Return Date Set for Beaumont

Mom and Dad will be returning to Beaumont on Thursday. The doctor at Nacogdoches has decided that Dad will well enough to return home, and to make sure that the trip is easier is ordering an ambulance to transport him.

The doctor has also called the hospital in Beaumont to make sure that the proper facilities are available should they be needed. According to his call, the hospital is operating at almost full capability.

A number of the neighbors have returned or will be returning this week. Paulett has been over to the house again and says that it is fine. She will get the air conditioning turned on in advance of their arrival.

The local grocery stores are running on a reduced schedule, however they are open and receiving supplies.

So – at this time it looks like all is go for them to return on Thursday.

Starting Home

Dad continues to improve, it now appears sure that he will be released from the Hospital this week. Both infections appear to be under control. Mom says he is in good spirits, and has been sitting up each day. As of last night, he was still receiving antibiotics.

According to media reports, the water in Beaumont is begining to be safe. Officials are saying that the water should be run for 10 minutes before using. Utilities are coming back on line, with Entergy making progress in the city.

However, a different report says that officials are discouraging people from coming back to stay yet. We are still working to determine the status of medical and other services in the area.

Hopefully they will not have to leave the hospital until it is clear to return to Beaumont. However, it’s a guessing game at this point.

Kathryn’s Music

It was pointed out to me that I had not mentioned what Kathryn plays in band. So here is an update on Kathryn.

244Kathryn is playing flute and over the summer started playing piccalo. She attended the FlootFire camp in Plano this summer, and had a wonderful time learning from great teachers and meeting a number of other flute players.

While attending FlootFire, she earned one of the two piccalo parts for the final performance. This was after only having a school piccalo for a couple of weeks beforehand.

She is doing really well in her music, and is currently 1st chair in the 9th grade band. Last year, her 8th grade band got to travel to San Antionio to perform at the Texas Music Educators conference.

She is also enjoying her first year of Marching Band. Even though it is a lot of hard work it is lots of fun.

Weekend Update

Talked to Mom this morning. All is well, almost too well.

The doctor is very pleased with Dad’s progress, and has indicated that he will likely be discharged this week. This is great news on the medical front. The only problem is the timing.

Beaumont is still closed – and is exprected to be so for the near future. From what I hear (and heard from Mom this morning) they can not get enough crews in place due to logistics (feeding, housing, etc) to make significant headway on the problem of restoring power to the area.

Mom is going to look into getting the proper medical equipment for Margery’s house on Monday.

All in all though – they are fine. Mom was having tea when I spoke to her this morning. Dad has been resting well, and has been sitting up a portion of each day. He did miss the Longhorn game yesterday though.
