Geocaching in the New Year

January 1, 2007 was such a beautiful day that we decided to start the year off right with an afternoon of geocaching in the Mansfield area. We targeted a tight group of caches and set off with the goal of reaching as many as possible before we had to call it a day.

Winter caching days are short – here you start losing the light around 4:00 PM. Since we are not yet up to night caching, we try to be out of the woods by then as in the trees the light goes faster.

Since it had rained a couple of days before we had the occasional muddy spot – but for the most part we were able to avoid deep mud. We found some very nice – and in some ways challenging caches on the loop.

We were trying to get seven to start out ’07 – but since it turned out that one of our finds was actually the final stage of a multi-cache – we only got six. Since we did not solve the puzzle for the multi we did not count it.

So happy caching new year – hopefully we will make 100 by the end of the year.

  1. Yes – we are located in the Dallas area so instead of caching this weekend we are sitting tight. It is giving me time to catch up on some blog maintenance for several other sites and to finally try to get some more recent entries posted on our site. We have a cache loop planned for later this spring at Caddo Lakes to pick up at least on in Arkansas and then Colorado and the four corners during the summer.
